This is a family therapy practice that helps individuals, couples, and families with relationship difficulties, premarital counseling, mental health disorders, parenting, aging, anxiety or stress.
The licensed social worker and certified marriage and family therapist has a diverse clinical experience with a focus on aging families, including coping with chronic illness, death of a partner or child, divorse and retirement.
Availability for office or home visits, as well as electronic counseling (via email, SMS, twitter, skype, phone, etc.)
Individual Therapy
- Provides a supportive and safe environment and focuses on meeting the client’s needs and goals
- Addresses the individual, using an integrated approach in looking for the meaning of an identified behavior
- Increases awareness of stress and builds a sense of control over specific stressors
- Completes assessment that requires joining with the individual and strengthening the relationship
- Shows how poor self-esteem transforms a simple mistake or imperfection into an overpowering image of defeat
- Provides role playing and take home exercises that creates confidence in relating to real time life situations
- In summarizing the insightful facts given by the individual, a case formulation is drawn
Couples Therapy
- Using the approach that individuals are part of a family system produces identification of goals that can be attainable and time framed
- Enables an understanding of the complexities of the couple’s relationship and their extended family’s role in their relationships
- Breaks the destructive cycles of undesirable behavior and replaces them with more constructive and healing interactions
- Supports the development of identity and personality styles which influence the way the individual relates to their spouse/partner
- Assists the couple in learning effective communication, problem-solving and decision making techniques through role playing and exercises
- Develops healthy boundaries that provide protection from erroneous beliefs, lack of self-compassion or empathy
Family Therapy
- Offers family interventions, which relies on the idea that the family is the primary emotional system
- Provides coaching interventions that keep the big picture in mind, and advice on strengths and weaknesses
- As part of the evaluation process, identifies emotional triangles and shifts the dynamic
- During sessions or outside activities, coaches and practices family communication techniques
- Develops a family relationship contract which may mean what each is willing to give for a better person-to-person relationship
- Offers learning on how to manage conflict and handle affection and intimacy in a healthy manner
